What to Wear for an Engagement Session

What to wear for an engagement session– its a question that puzzles a lot of couples, but it’s actually not that hard! In this post I will go over a few tips to make styling your wardrobe a little bit easier.

First of all, be you. It’s really tempting to look at fashion blogs and try to replicate current trendy fashion looks, but if that’s not your style, don’t do it. If it is your style, own it, baby! Look at you in those cute suede wedges and blanket scarf! Haha but seriously. If you’re wearing something you like and you feel looks good on you, that feeling will translate into your images.

I really love how Logan and Sydney were dressed for their surprise engagement at Butterfly Gap. Even though it was a surprise engagement that Sydney knew nothing about, she was clearly ready for the moment in this cute outfit! Slim cut jeans show off her slim figure, while a drapey shirt and statement necklace embrace a comfortable and easy style. Finished with great riding boots and lace socks, Sydney looks like she could be either tailgate ready or engagement session polished. Logan is pulling off that Southern Gentleman look with an oxford shirt, Columbia vest, washed jeans and boots. You can see more photos of their outfits here. This shoot was also featured on Mountainside Bride and you can see that feature here.

Jessica and Joey are an adventurous couple that enjoy exploring the outdoors. They created a stylish yet comfortable look for their session, by implementing soft fabrics and neutral colors. I am a huge advocate staying away from busy prints that will compete for attention. All the attention should be on YOU in an image; the eye shouldn’t be distracted by a print. You can see more images from their engagement session here.

This image is of me and my husband totally laughing our heads off about something I don’t even remember. I like to think it’s because we were in clothes that it us well, were flattering to our skin tones, and were comfortable. (Ok, as comfortable as heels can be for a girl who wears flips flops 99% of the time lol).  I love this photo so much, and Josh Elliott captured us so well. We were wearing clothes we normally wear to church, and we felt like us. Not trying to be anyone else. My dress is from Brooks Brothers (LOVE their Southern and stylish clothes!), wedges by Gianni Bini, hair and makeup by Beauty and the Beach. Alex is wearing a Ralph Lauren linen shirt, a Lands End bowtie, American Eagle pants, Banana Republic blazer, and Sperry boat shoes

Conclusion

Just make sure whatever you wear, you’re comfortable, your clothing fits well and is flattering, and colors that complement your skin tones. Your confidence will show through in your images and your emotion will be more raw, and you’ll look like you!
