Longing to be Fiercely Expectant

I want to start this post by first saying I am by no means a Theologian.  Clearly I am also not a professional Macro or Landscape photographer either haha! But I just want to share this little revelation I had today while outside with my son. If you are like me and have a toddler who loves the outdoors, you probably spend a lot of your time following them around trying to keep them alive while they explore the outdoors. That’s exactly what I was doing this morning when I almost passed this little profound moment. Seeing something hanging in my azalea bush, I stopped. It almost looked like a necklace, but when I peered closer, I realized it must be a cocoon! I can’t recall as I’ve ever seen one that wasn’t in a school project before. I guess I never looked closely enough.

The more I looked at this wonder of nature, just swinging in the breeze, the more I puzzled. The cocoons I’ve seen in school were always clinging snuggly a branch. This little guy was just swinging in the breeze like he was ready for the split second when he would emerge as a beautiful butterfly.

I got to thinking about how brave and fiercely expectant this tiny little creature is. He is not inhibited by his obvious limitations. And how does he know he will become a butterfly? How does he even know what that will be like?  This tiny creature obviously isn’t concerned. He knows that something wonderful is out there for him and he wants to be ready for it the moment it happens.

Fiercely Expectant

I thought about my life. Am I fiercely expectant for what God has in store? Do I have the zeal and enthusiasm this little caterpillar has?  I often view the life God has given me with the caveat of “well this is great but what is coming my way?”.  Like I default to dread it instead of enthusiasm about what lies around the bend. I struggle with change and I always have. But I want to be someone who, like this caterpillar, is ready to meet the next chapter with glee.

The Bible Says  “For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known”.

I am so excited about that day when I’ll be face to face with my Lord and Savior, my Father.

But until then, God, help me to be fiercely expectant and ready for what You have in store for me today.
