I love family sessions on Topsail Island. There is nothing more flattering than the ocean breeze in your hair and the golden light of a sunset at the beach. Other than the fact that Topsail Island is like my second home, I love photographing there for the lighting, the setting, and the magical way everyone looks in photos.
So when I get a chance to go to Topsail I photograph as much as possible! I so enjoyed photographing this my sister’s family session. The children were so well behaved and actually all smiled at the camera at the same time! Whenever photographing a family, the dynamic between the children comes into play. I love getting them alone and capturing their little personalities. Annie, the oldest, is going through the pre-tween stage where she’s SUCH a big girl haha. Jack is the quiet one which is mostly due to Charlotte who’s quite the boisterous, yet precious little girl. Grant is in the two-year-old-stage, which is characterized by constant change. Add those little personalities all together and who knows what will happen!
They each did a fantastic job of working together and making the photos so memorable. Often the older children would giggle and make jokes to make the younger laugh. I love including the whole family in making a family session a success. These little performed this task perfectly.
Advice on wardrobe styling for a family session:
I always suggest mixing textures, patterns and prints with harmonious solids. Doing this makes each family member stand out without clashing with the others. Sarah did a great job of coordinating light and deep colors that were complimentary to everyone’s complexion, while incorporating a print and some stripes. The end result was just beautiful!
Loved photographing this sweet family session on Topsail Island!
